October 19 @ 6:30 pm - 10:30 pm

Our Autumn Livery Dinner will take place at Grocers’ Hall on Thursday 19 October 2017. The drinks reception will take place at 6.45pm for dinner at 7.30pm. The dress code, as usual, is “black tie”.

On this occasion the Master has decided, as a trial, to lift the restriction on members inviting their spouse to a Livery dinner. We do not wish materially to change the style of our dinners, to which members primarily invite business guests, but you may bring your spouse (and invite the spouse of a business guest) if you so wish.

We believe, however, that our Mansion House banquet remains the primary function for guests and spouses and the January 2018 Livery dinner will revert to the normal format.

Our principal guest is Wasfi Kani, OBE. Wasfi founded Grange Park Opera in 1998. It is considered one of the leading opera companies in the UK and has now moved to a new purpose-built opera house in the grounds of West Horsley Place in Surrey, the manor house recently left to broadcaster Bamber Gascoigne. The Master intends to arrange a visit to Grange Park Opera during the 2018 season.

Born in 1956 in East London to Muslim Indian parents who had fled India at Partition, Wasfi was educated at Burlington Grammar for Girls in London and St Hilda’s College, Oxford, where she read Music. After a decade of working with computers in the City, programming and designing financial systems, Wasfi trained as a conductor.

There will be an operatic interlude during the evening.

Tickets are £105 each (with a discount of £50 for prospective members attending their first dinner as a guest) and can be reserved by clicking the booking form here. Booking will close on 6 October, or earlier if we reach the Hall’s capacity.
