Whilst all donations are very welcome, members are encouraged to consider using Gift Aid as this will normally increase the amount of the donation to the Charitable Fund by 25%. Higher rate taxpayers may also be able to claim some tax relief on their contributions. A Gift Aid Declaration Form needs to be completed by the donor and sent to the Almoner. A copy of the form is available here.
Donations can be made in any of the following ways:
Standing Order: Most members of the Actuaries’ Company donate this way. Payments can be made monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or annually. A Standing Order form is available from the Almoner – please then send the form direct to your bank and send a copy to the Almoner together with the Gift Aid Declaration Form if you have not previously completed one. Alternatively you may set up a standing order directly via online banking, in which case please let the Almoner know and send him the Gift Aid Declaration Form.
Cheques should be sent to the Almoner together with a Gift Aid Declaration Form if one has not already been completed. Cheques drawn on CAF accounts do not qualify for further Gift Aid so a declaration form is not needed.
Online: Donations may be made online to the Charitable Fund’s bank account at NatWest. The sort code is 50-00-00 and the account number is 00566470. Please give some identification of the donor’s name and, if one has not already been completed, send a Gift Aid Declaration Form to the Almoner.
Credit Card: The Charitable Fund has an account with Virgin Money Giving. This can be a very convenient method for sponsoring and supporting Actuaries’ Company events and supports both single and regular payments. Donations can be made online at the following addresshttps://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/fundraiser-web/donate/makeDonationForCharityDisplay.action?charityId=1003607.
Credit Card donors do not need to complete a separate Gift Aid Form.
Many members have left a legacy to the Charitable Fund in their wills as a final gift to enable their charitable funding to continue into the future. Legacies can be a very tax-effective method of donating money. Whatever the amount, giving in this way is most welcome.
The Almoner, Chris Bamford, is always available to discuss any of these matters by email at email@example.com and to receive items by post via The Actuaries’ Company, Second Floor, 2 London Wall Place, London EC2Y 5AU.
