Weekly socials – April 2021

Don’t forget our weekly socials by Zoom, at 6.30pm every Thursday evening. We have the following this month and the Zoom link is here – the same every week. We encourage you to ask any prospective members you know to join us too.

6.30pm Thursday 1st April 2021 – Gordon’s Quiz:  Our quiz master Gordon Sharp will be back for the monthly quiz. Invite the family to join in!

6.30pmThursday 8th April 2021 – An evening with two Past Masters: We celebrated our 25th anniversary in 2004 and the then Master, Alan Frost, commissioned an organ work called “Variations on Laudi Spirituali”
as a gift to the Company. It was first performed at a concert at St Lawrence Jewry on 21 September 2004 and the piece was played by the late Catherine Ennis. It is absolutely magnificent.  Past Master Alan will introduce the piece, briefly explaining the thinking behind it, and then we will play a recording of it.

After the music we will have a “question and answer” session, hosted by the Master, where our Past Master Adrian Waddingham will provide some memories and anecdotes of his time as Sheriff in 2013/14.

We will be inviting some other Livery companies and some “friends of St Lawrence Jewry” to join us for this evening. That means that the zoom link will be a different one – you can access it using the simple booking form contained here.

6.30pm Thursday 15th April 2021 – A tour of historical gardens:

We will take you around some of the country’s famous gardens, exploring the plants and trees and looking how professionals plan their gardens.

6.30pm Thursday 22nd April 2021 – The story of Lighthouses

Many of us have admired lighthouses –  if only for their mark on far flung places of awesome coastal beauty. In this talk, Rodney Jagelman will share his interest in their history, their construction and their operation under the supervision, at least in England and Wales, of Trinity House.

6.30pm Thursday 29th April 2021 – COVID-19 update:

Another topical and interesting discussion on COVID hosted by Peter Tompkins, with updates on the latest developments. We will look at the latest position across the globe.
